Introducing decorative glass designer, Emma Britton…

During these grey days we seem to be getting a lot of here in the UK recently, it’s a real pleasure to feature Emma Britton‘s colourful creations.

Emma is a decorative glass designer, based in Nottingham.  From her home studio, she designs floral-inspired splashbacks, worktop protectors and panels. 

Her latest work is a range called ‘Up the Garden Path’, which is a collection of beautiful splashbacks for your kitchen.  The one above is called Pink Hydrangea and I’ve including images of the other three designs below.

Commissions

Emma also offers a bespoke design service for homes and commercial projects.  Examples of two of her specially commissioned decorative panels are shown below.

I was so intrigued by Emma’s designs that I asked her a few questions to find out more: -

Where do you get your inspiration, as in why did you decide to concentrate on floral designs?

I discovered I had a talent for painting florals and never get tired of drawing them. My inspiration comes from British suburbia, be that a rambling hydrangea, a mustard Ford Cortina or some old-fashioned shutters painted a bright shade of blue.

When painting, do you use fresh flowers to refer to or images/pictures?

If the flowers are in season I draw from life, but often from my own photographs which I take on sunny days.  I have been known to knock on peoples’ doors and ask to photograph in their gardens.

Do you have a favourite flower?

My favourite flowers are lupins, but I like daffodils and tulips too.

What are your plans for 2011?

As a newly established business and the fresh collection, ‘Up the Garden Path’, my plans are to hopefully see more people with floral splashbacks in their homes. I will also be doing select bespoke panels for up-and-coming exhibitions.

I’m sure you’ll agree that Emma’s work is very captivating.  I’ve never seen decorative floral glass designs used as splashbacks before, have you?
