Introducing artist, Charlotte Hardy…

I hope you had a lovely weekend.  I am delighted to start off the week with such a talented artist.  Her name is Charlotte Hardy and I was so happy to discover her work recently when I bought one of her cards from Paperchase.

Charlotte is an artist and illustrator based in London.  Today’s post includes a small selection of her paintings.  (It was SO hard for me to select just a few from the gallery on her website, as they’re all absolutely stunning!)

As well as paintings, Charlotte also sells prints and greeting cards through various high street shops.  Enjoy!

Charlotte very kindly answered a few questions for me:

When did you start your business and where are you based?

I’ve worked as an artist and illustrator for the last twelve years after graduating with a degree in Printed Textile Design in 1999.

I’m currently based in South London in a fantastic studio called Clockwork Studios. The building has a lot of history…it was Charlie Chaplin’s rehearsal studio, then a clock factory before becoming artists’ studios.

Where do you get your floral inspiration for your designs?

I always carry a camera with me in my bag in case I walk past an inspiring shop window or florist. I love going to the New Covent Garden Flower Market in Vauxhall to see their special events, like the wedding show.

The displays by my favourite florist Rebel Rebel are always so imaginative and over the top. I have recently discovered a pretty French plant shop in Greenwich, which is the inspiration for my next painting.

What are your plans for the remainder of 2011?

I have a stand booked at an art fair at Fulham Palace in London which is taking place in October. It’s a stately home near Putney Bridge tube station. The artwork will be displayed in marquees outside.

I’m also taking part in the first Affordable Art Fair in North London on Hampstead Heath later in the year.

Do you have a favourite flower?

At the moment, it’s lupins. I love old-fashioned cottage garden flowers.
