Friday Flowers : Sweet Williams for the weekend…

Sweet-Williams-Flowerona

I’ve been meaning to do this for a very long while.

It was an idea which one of my friends had…to write a regular blog post on a Friday giving my readers ideas of how to bring flowers into their home for the weekend.

So, welcome to Friday Flowers…

The ideas will be very simple, require virtually no skill and this one can be done for less than a fiver.

Sweet Williams

We’re going to start off with Sweet Williams which are in plentiful supply at this time of year.  And they’re also very long-lasting.

As the flowers come with a lot of green foliage, you could simply place them in a vase as below…

But why not make a little extra effort and mix stems of Sweet William with cuttings of foliage from your garden, such as alchemilla mollis and euphorbia oblongata.  And I’ve also used some pretty pink blooms of black elder.

This look of individual bottles of single or multiple blooms is so on trend at the moment…

London-based florist Scarlet & Violet used the technique to display flowers on the reception tables at Kate Moss’s wedding last year.

You don’t need to use matching bottles, although if you like the cute milk bottles I’ve used they’re available via dotcomgiftshop.  Odd glass vases and containers from charity shops or car boot sales would be just as good.

So, why not buy a bunch of Sweet Williams and brighten up your home this weekend?

Mine are currently sitting on a kitchen window sill, but if you’ve got people coming around for dinner, they would look great placed down the centre of a table.

Just two tips…make sure the stems are free from foliage and that you arrange in odd numbers.

Hope you have fun and do let me know how you get on.

P.S. It’ll depend on how popular it is as to how often I compile posts for this blog series, so please do let me know by leaving a comment below if you’d like to see more ideas.
