Social Media for Florists Workshop – London, 1st October 2014


Last Wednesday, we held our second Social Media for Florists workshop and what an incredible day it was! Florists from all over the UK had travelled to the event, which took place at Brixton East in south London.

Here’s a video about the day, which was created by Duncan McCabe. It features both myself and Fiona being interviewed, scenes from the workshop, plus testimonials by Fiona Pickles from Firenza Floral Design, Sally Murray from Halo Blossom, Holly Cadogan from Holly Cado Flowers and Liz Inigo Jones from Blue Sky Flowers.

For this, our second workshop, we chose a colour palette of damson, plum and purple, mixed with soft blush pink, white and green. Roses, astrantia, scabious, chocolate cosmos, hydrangeas, ammi, continus and mimosa supplied by our fabulous sponsor Zest Flowers at New Covent Garden Flower Market were used to decorate the venue and add a floral touch!

My co-host Fiona and I greeted the delegates with freshly brewed tea and coffee downstairs. There was such a wonderful buzz and it was so lovely for me personally to catch up with florists I knew, plus meet lots of new faces.


Upstairs, in the ‘classroom’, we started the day by asking the delegates to spend time thinking about their brand and their floristry style.



To help the them focus on what makes their floristry business distinctive, we asked the delegates to create a mood board. It was so interesting to see that these boards proved to be a real talking point throughout the day.  Lots of the delegates were intrigued to see what everyone else’s board looked like.




Next up was elevenses. And, oh my! Yet again, our amazing chef Maddie Hatton wowed everyone with her delicious cakes. There were Blackberry & Hazelnut Friandes with Violas (I have to admit…these were my personal favourites!), Pistachio Loaf and Granola Bars.



During the next part of the workshop, we covered Facebook and Twitter in turn, with a Powerpoint presentation showing shining examples of florists from all over the world. Adorned with flowers, our two course lunch which we ate downstairs was such a picture…and tasted extremely delicious too!

There was Rare Fillet of Beef, Lemon & Thyme Grilled Organic Chicken, Heritage Tomato & Ricotta Galette, Roasted Butternut Squash with Tahini Yoghurt & Seeds, Wild Rice, Red Cabbage, Apple & Pecan Salad with Maple Dressing, Green Salad with Herbs & Edible Flowers, Goat’s Cheese, Walnuts with Honey & Thyme plus Artisan Breads.




And for dessert, there was Blackberry & Plum Eton Mess and Valrhona Chocolate Brownies with Berries. Yum!

The lunch hour whizzed past! It was then time to head back upstairs to look at Instagram, Pinterest and blogging. The delegates asked questions about the intricacies of each social media platform. And we shared with them our hints and tips from our experience of using them.



As a finale for the day, there was delicious cocktail and mocktail-making downstairs, with a final chance to chat with everyone, before we all made our way home.

And it’s so exciting to see that some of them have already changed their profiles and the way that they use each social media platform.
