Wedding Wednesday : Grace Kelly-inspired shoot in Cannes

In this week’s Wednesday Wednesday blog post, I’m delighted to feature images from a shoot with stunning floral designs by Swiss based florist Tabea Maria-Lisa.

Tabea Maria-Lisa very kindly told me the background: “Last year, together with a very talented team, I was in Cannes, in the South of France. Inspired by film icon and former Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly, we did a styled shoot to inspire brides from faraway to come and organise a luxurious wedding by the Mediterranean Sea.

For the flowers, I chose a very delicate colour combination with just white and cream flowers. The bridal bouquet featured lily of the valley, sweet peas and single hydrangea blossoms. I tried to create a shape similar to the bridal bouquet which Grace was carrying at her wedding, but made it in a more modern style.

There’s no royal wedding without lily of the valley! These very small and fragile white blooms embody romance as its best. Also, it adds an elegant touch to the design. The sweet pea symbolises ‘delicate pleasures’ and it’s also very appropriate for a royal bridal bouquet.

For the table designs, I used mostly Vendela and Talea roses, white peonies and white hydrangeas. The colour of the Talea rose is a very soft cream and it fits perfectly with the Vendela, since the Vendela is more ivory and its very large head opens into a cup-shaped bloom. Hydrangeas are undisputedly timeless. And last but definitely not least, white peonies are a bloom which most brides are fond of. And I have to confess, it’s my favorite flower too.

To get this very special look, I added some crystals and vases in antique silver, placed on a mirror pedestal. And of course, antique candle holders and candlelight could not be missing. My inspiration for the floral designs was the room and place where we arranged the shoot. I tried to record the splendour of the Carlton Hotel, as well as imagine how a royal dinner should look. I wanted to create a blend of tradition and trend, because Grace Kelly was and still is a style icon.”
