Can you tell us what ‘The Big Event’ is all about?
Quite simply, ‘The Big Event’ is all about taking the fear out of large-scale events for florists. We find that many talented florists are so daunted by the scale of the design challenge and the potential financial risks, that it’s holding their flower businesses back.
We picked Devon’s Bridwell Park for ‘The Big Event’, because it’s exactly the sort of imposing venue florists are invited to decorate for a wedding or a large celebration. This Grade I listed Georgian country house is the ideal location for our florists to test out their big event wings! They’ll have exclusive access to this luxurious stately home, working, sleeping and eating here for two full days.
What can attendees expect to learn?
After two days with our amazing Academy tutors – Julie Collins, Tina Parkes, Amanda Randell and Kathryn Delve – they will have the knowledge, confidence and hands-on experience of how to pitch, cost for profit and plan for a large-scale event, as well as the techniques to create designs to complement the scale and style of the space.
What will students learn over the two days?
They’ll learn how to research, cost and present their pitch, how to design for a big space and sketch ideas to help plan the structures, mechanics, flowers and foliage they’ll need. They’ll be taught the essentials of how to draft a client contract, a risk assessment, an ordering grid and a staff work plan for seamless prep and staging. And, above all, they’ll get hands-on with real-life big event floristry, creating stunning floral designs in four of the magnificent reception rooms at Bridwell Park.
