The Floral Escape with Sabine Darrall – April 2016

Last April, I had the pleasure of visiting ‘The Floral Escape’, run by Sabine Darrall at Hellens Manor in Herefordshire. And today, I’m delighted to share with you some of Katie Spicer’s stunning photographs of the event.

A wonderful group of florists, who’d travelled from all different parts of the UK gathered on the first evening. And once settled into our rooms, we had a delicious supper and enjoyed lots of chatter about flowers and the world of floristry.

The first day started with breakfast, followed by a tour of the beautiful gardens at the venue.

Then we made our way to the Great Barn, where the florists working in teams created two incredible floral chandeliers, which you can see pictured below. Flowers included roses, peonies, guelder rose and delphiniums.

Then, in the afternoon, they created natural styled compotier designs. And the day was finished off with a calligraphy lesson and a glass of English wine from a local vineyard. Over dinner, we had a chance to catch up on the day and it was so lovely to hear everyone’s floral journeys!

The next day, the florists made hanging floral terrariums, which were hung from the ceiling at varying heights.

Then they designed a floral halo, wristlet and bouquet. Plus a fabulous floral arch was created as a team effort!

Katie then captured everyone’s designs…

Thank you so much to Sabine for inviting me! I had such an amazing time…and it was so wonderful to go to a residential floristry course for a change, as opposed to a day event, and really get to know everyone. Long may this trend for residential courses continue…

The Floral Escape is taking place again next month and I understand that there are just a couple of places left. So, make sure you’re quick if you’d like to take part! For more information, simply pop over to the Sabine Darrall website.
