Asters are one of those flowers that tend to flit in and out of fashion.
I love the colours which make up this particular variety, with clashing vibrant cerise pink petals and bright yellow centres.
They generally bloom in late summer and autumn, and come in purple, pink, red and white.
The name aster is the Latin word for ‘star’ and is said to refer to the flower’s star-like shape. They’re part of the daisy family and have a very ‘English country garden’ feel.
