I hope you had a lovely weekend. Today, I’ll be at the Press Day for the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. Join me on Instagram for behind the scenes photos from my time there.
Now on to today’s blog post and I’m delighted to feature my book review of The Flower Appreciation Society’s very first book – An A to Z of All Things Floral.
Written by the fabulous Ellie and Anna who are pictured below, it’s a book like no other floristry book that I’ve ever read! From A to Z, it takes you through the world of floristry and it’s brimming full of quirky, colourful illustrations, masses of in-depth advice and lots of how-tos.
Here are some example pages, starting with J for Jar, where there are step-by-step instructions on how to fill a jar with blooms.
And here’s K for Kit.
You’ll find illustrations of their best-loved flowers, foliage and herbs. And with each flower, you’ll find its British seasonal availability. One of my favourite letters is M for Market, which features fascinating profiles of some of the market traders at New Covent Garden Flower Market, where Ellie and Anna buy their floral supplies. And not to be missed is the section called ‘How We Began’, where they share the story about the origins of their floristry business.
An un-put-downable reference book for flower lovers, especially if you’re just at the start of your floral journey, is how I would describe ‘An A to Z of All Things Floral’. Huge congratulations to Ellie and Anna!
P.S. You may like to read this interview on Flowerona with Ellie, back in 2012. Oh…and they’ve recently updated The Flower Appreciation Society website, so do check it out!
