Well, Flowerona readers…you’re really in for an amazing treat today!
Event stylists By Appointment Only Design (BAOD) invited me to shadow them one weekend last month as they prepared for and styled a stunning wedding in London.
I’m planning on featuring six blog posts throughout the day…something I’ve never done before!
So here’s how the weekend unfolded…
Saturday
On the Saturday, I was up early and went to the By Appointment Only Design studio in Camden, where I met up with Javier and Tony who run the company.
And also there were the BAOD staff busy at work, and photographer Catherine Mead who captured the weekend in these stunning photos.
After a warming cup of tea, Tony talked me through the plans for the wedding which was taking place the next day.
He explained that their company is passionate about creating a one-off experience for each of their clients. And after an initial meeting, he sketches drawings to show the clients how he envisages each design will look.
This particular client had shown him lots of images of blousy flowers, like peonies and garden roses, when they first met.
They wanted there to be a ‘spring’ feel to their wedding and the bride had chosen a colour palette of pale pink and white.
The wedding ceremony was taking place on the Sunday at a synagogue in North London, followed by a reception at The Savoy.
The plan for that Saturday was to create the table arrangements for the reception.
In the banqueting room at the hotel, there were going to be twenty tables…ten round and ten rectangular.
Double domes of roses were going to adorn the round tables and the rectangular tables were going to be decorated with hand-tied bouquets.
To create the designs, the following flowers were used :
- Norma Jeane roses
- White O’Hara roses
- Pink O’Hara roses
- Quicksand roses
- Secret Garden roses
- Sweet Avalanche roses
- Bombastic spray roses
- White hydrangeas
- White freesias
The first images in this blog post show you around the studio:
And here are some images showing how Tony made one of the double domes of roses.
Spherical balls of floral foam were covered in chicken wire and then placed on top of glass vases of different heights.
Tony then started by inserting white hydrangeas into the foam…
Then he inserted the roses…
Each dome was placed on a perspex saucer. The saucer’s base had been decorated with white silk petals, so that if a guest looked up, the dark green floral foam was camouflaged.
Javier and one of the BAOD staff used hot glue guns to attach the petals to each of the perspex dishes.
In the next blog post, I’ll be showing you how the hand-tied bouquets were created.
P.S. If you’d like to read more about By Appointment Only Design, I interviewed Javier last year on Flowerona.
