I hope you had a lovely weekend. Photographer Katie Spicer has compiled such a wonderful post for us this month, with yet more amazingly beautiful photos! Over to you, Katie…
This month’s post is a little different. I’ve been writing guest blog posts for Rona since January, almost a year now. I hope you’ve found them entertaining! So I thought, for a change, you might like a little insight into my world as a professional photographer. As an extra special treat, because it’s Christmas, I’ve put in a few more images than normal!
Sarah Statham from Simply By Arrangement (pictured above) and I met when I was shooting the Flowerona ‘Social Media for Florists’ workshop back in July. We had been Twitter friends beforehand, so it was lovely to finally meet in person. It was soon after this that Sarah asked me to come up to Yorkshire and take some photos of her beautiful cutting garden and one of her workshops for her new website.
She set up Simply By Arrangement in 2013, along with her friend Mrs. B. They have both followed their life-long passions and together have crafted a very special artisan flower and food offering. Sarah is the florist and grows a lot of the flowers in her own cutting garden at her home in Yorkshire. Mrs. B, also known as Christie, specialises in the culinary delights. Sarah runs the workshops in a beautifully decorated room at Mrs. B’s house in Lancashire. It’s big enough to fit eight people and flowers galore. So it’s a lovely intimate environment.
I was very honoured as Mrs. B (pictured below) went to an extra special effort for my visit as I am Coeliac. I can vouch for her gluten free food being absolutely delicious. There was so much to choose from, I was in heaven! We had bubbles on the lawn followed by a three course lunch with a choice of wines. I love my job but it’s days like this when I reallly love my job!
All the flowers used in the workshops are British grown and the flowers for this workshop came from Flowers from the Garden in Harrogate and Holme Flowers in Thirsk.
?”?I have long admired Katie’s flower photos and her flower blog posts featured on Flowerona. I was thrilled to meet her at the Flowerona ‘Social Media for Florists’ course in Brixton, and to watch the way she worked – quietly clicking away in the background, capturing the essence of a wonderful day. Once I had seen her photographs of that day – the flowers, the food, the people- I knew that she would be the perfect photographer to ask to come to our own workshop and to capture one of our days, so that we would have some impressive photos for our new website.
Katie kindly agreed to travel ‘up North’ and to spend the evening with me and Christie my business partner (who had also seen her work and was easily persuaded by me that we needed her photographs!).
On a beautiful summer evening, Katie instantly set about taking what turned out to be breath-taking photographs of our cutting garden. At least now, when it’s all dug up for winter, we will have a year of hard work immortalised in those beautiful photos and something to remind us that we must grow even more next year.
Katie was so easy to get along with and we all spent a great evening chatting about flowers over dinner in the local pub. The following day, Katie’s mission was to take photographs of our workshop, the flowers, the delicious food and of course to capture our workshop attendees ‘in action’. Again, quietly in the background, she did this superbly, almost without us noticing she was there.
It was an absolute pleasure to have Katie working alongside us for the day. It was even better to receive the photographs only days later. They are exactly what we wanted and we cannot wait to put them on our website. Katie is such a talented photographer – and her passion for flowers is reflected in the amazing photos she takes. I would recommend her to anyone!?”? Sarah Statham, Simply By Arrangement.
