Last Friday, I was delighted to be invited to attend a Christmas Wreath Course at the Zita Elze Flower School in Kew.
Here’s a photo above showing Zita and the attendees holding their finished designs.
The course started at 10am, and after a hot drink and delicious pastries, Zita showed us how to tease out our moss and then wire it on to the wreath frame.
Then we popped to her shop to select the foliage which we wanted to use to create our designs. There was so much choice available and I saw types of greenery that I’d never come across before.
Back at our desks, we cut the foliage to the appropriate lengths.
Next, taking assorted bundles, Zita showed us how to wire them on to the mossed frame…one bundle on the outside edge, one in the middle and one on the inside edge.
And so we merrily set to work on each of our designs…
Meanwhile, Zita and her colleague Lucinda were on hand to help with advice. And once we’d finished, we all tucked into a lovely sandwich lunch, before the course finished at 2pm.
Below are some of the finished wreaths (mine is in the bottom right).
It always makes me smile when I attend floristry courses and see how even though everyone has the same choice of materials, that each design can look completely different!
Normally I go for a little bit of bling at Christmas with baubles and sprayed pine cones, so it’s lovely to have a change and go for a very natural look this year.
I’d like to say a very big thank you to Zita and Lucinda.
Plus thank you to all the students. Some of them make attending Zita’s Christmas courses an annual occurrence. And I can certainly see why…I had such a wonderful time!
P.S. Tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Zita will be running Christmas Table Decoration courses at the school.
