Today’s post features Suffolk-based florist, Claire Cowling. As well as being an internationally recognised florist, Claire is also co-author of several best-selling floristry books and via her company, Thrive Floristry, she conducts workshops and sells hard-to-find floristry books.
Claire started off with an arrangement of white roses, hydrangea, pepper berries, magnolia leaves and honesty in a large silver boat-shaped dish (pictured above and below). She said that the design would be suitable for a table centre or contract design.
Then using a frame of red cornus, Claire made a hand-tied bouquet of roses, hydrangea and eucalyptus.
Next, Claire created a wired bridal bouquet. Andrea Caldecourt who was compering the event helped Claire whilst she glued on some honesty to the bouquet, together with garlands of berries and hydrangea.
I loved Claire’s last two designs…what looked like a gorgeous pink ice-cream sundae and a vibrant wreath full of red and yellow roses.
Claire has such an eye for combining different textures and I love her intricate and detailed style of arranging flowers. She said that she likes to let flowers themselves show their natural beauty…and don’t they look gorgeous?

Many thanks to Helen Evans and Liz Anderson at New Covent Garden Flower Market for organising such an inspirational event!
