Hello everyone! It’s lovely to be back…
I’ve returned to work today after a two week break…the longest time I’ve ever taken off from Flowerona. Since the beginning of the year, it’s been completely full-on with hardly a moment to come up for air. I’m not complaining at all (!) but I really felt that I needed some time away to ‘press the reset button’ and have a digital detox.
So, I set my ‘out of office’ email message and escaped to Mallorca for a week. Twenty five years ago, I worked on the island as a holiday rep for Thomson Holidays (my ‘year-out’ after university) and this was the first time that I’d returned. Earlier this year, when my husband and I were discussing where to go for our summer break, I remembered the beautiful resort of Cala St Vicente. When I was repping, we’d often drop holidaymakers there after day trips and I’d always thought that I’d love to go back. As we were looking for a small resort with a sandy beach, just a couple of hours flight from the UK, it was ideal! And it was so lovely to speak Spanish again, even if I was a little bit rusty!
Now…I didn’t come across any florist shops whilst I was there, but I did manage to capture some of the stunning flora including bougainvillea and hibiscus, as you’ll see below.
Every day, apart from one, we chilled on sun loungers on the beach. Actually, I ‘shade-bathed’ under an umbrella due to the temperatures soaring between a sizzling 30-35 degrees Celsius and my very pale skin!
However, one day we ventured to nearby Pollenca and climbed the 350+ steps up to Puig de Pollenca, a small chapel at the top of a hill. It was well worth the effort for the spectacular view over the surrounding countryside.
And here are a couple of the houses with fabulous gardens, which we passed on our journey.
At Cala St Vicente, there are four beaches and this one below, Cala Molins, was where we spent all our time. With crystal blue clear water (so inviting, that I even went for swim..which I rarely do!), golden sand and a nearby cafe which served delicious salads at lunchtime, it was just the perfect tonic.
And this is how the beach looked at sundown….
When we got back, I spent time with family. And I also ‘summer-cleaned’ my office…something I’ve been meaning to do for some time now, and have put off again and again, as I’ve been so busy. But oh my, it was so therapeutic and worthwhile! I still need to make some Ikea purchases for storage, but I’m almost there.
So, if you’re heading off on holiday shortly, especially if you’re going to Mallorca, I hope that you find these links below useful:

Favourite Restaurant in Cala St Vicente
- Ca”l Patrol – Amazingly delicious food and wonderful staff.
- Hush Coco Beach Dress – I wished I’d had this on holiday for going to the beach! But I’ve bought it for next time. (Btw, it’s now in the sale.)
Since the start of this year, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends, working every evening and weekend. And it was starting to take its toll. I love what I do, but every now and again, I know it’s essential to take some time out. Now, having taken a fortnight’s break, I really feel that I’ve ‘pressed the reset’ button and have a totally fresh perspective, not only on work but also on how I can free up some much-needed personal time.
So, if you’re going on holiday soon, I highly recommended setting your ‘out of office’ email message. I took my iPhone with me (for emergencies) but didn’t check any emails whatsoever. And if you get chance, use the time away to help you consider your plans for the remainder of 2015. Think about what you’d like to achieve, not only at work but also in your personal life, before the end of the year.
