Aren’t these floral tiles just beautiful?
I’d love to put them in our house as a splashback! They’re hand-made by Welbeck Tiles and the range above is called Patchwork from their Vintage Collection.
It comprises over 30 different floral patterns including all-over floral, floral hearts and floral gold hearts. The individual patterns can be viewed on their website.
Also in their Vintage Collection, is a floral range called Roses, which is shown below.
All of Welbeck Tiles’ designs are created by Brenda Bates, one of their directors, who has been involved in ceramic design and manufacture for over 25 years.
Brenda very kindly answered a few questions for me:
When did your business start and where are you based?
I started the business in 1988 as soon as I’d finished doing an MA in Ceramic Design at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent.
We were originally based in a workshop in the grounds of Welbeck Abbey in Nottinghamshire, hence where our name came from. We relocated down to Penzance in Cornwall in 2007.
Where do you get your floral inspiration for the tiles?
The inspiration for the floral tiles has come from my own love of collecting vintage floral fabrics.
What are your plans for 2011?
Our plans for this year include expanding our very popular Patchwork collection and the launch of a new gift ware collection.
Do you have a favourite flower?
My favourite flower is the anemone. I just love their bold colours and happy faces.
In addition to the very colourful floral ranges above, Welbeck Tiles also make the following designs called Tulips in their English Collection, plus Botanicals in their Platinum Collection.
They sell their products from their showroom in Cornwall, through specialist kitchen companies in the UK and via mail-order.
If you’d like to keep up-to-date with their news, Welbeck Tiles have a blog and are on Facebook too.
