Last month, I travelled to East London to visit florist Rebel Rebel. If you read Flowerona regularly, you’ll know that I very much admire the work of Athena Duncan and Mairead Curtin, the talented ladies behind this creative floristry business. Well, it was such a pleasure to set foot in their shop which is located in Broadway Market, E8. Now you can take a look inside with me…
Don’t they have a wonderful selection of flowers and foliage? From white asparagus fern (which is so perfect for Christmas designs) and ligustrum berries, to callicarpa, Yves Piaget roses, irises, ranunculus and nerines. Visiting New Covent Garden Flower Market most days of the week, they’re able to discover first-hand the new varieties of flowers and foliage which are available there. And their favourite roses at the moment at Prince Jardinier and Darcy.
When I saw Mairead and Athena at The Conran Shop recently, they mentioned that they’ve been using copper a lot for festive designs. And whilst I was at the shop, one of their team was arranging seasonal flowers and foliage in a tall cyclindrical glass vase, the outside of which had been copper-leafed and lacquered…especially for Selfridges.
As for their plans for 2014? Well, they’re looking forward to settling in more into their new office space nearby, where they’ll be planning lots of events for the forthcoming months.
What struck me on visiting their shop was what an truly amazing company they are…to have built such a well-known and loved brand from such relatively small premises. I very much look forward to seeing what the next 12 months have in store for these exceptionally creative ladies! And if you’re in the area, I highly recommend a visit to Rebel Rebel‘s shop. You can find it at 5 Broadway Market, London, E8 4PH.
P.S. I love their ‘Living Wreath‘ made from pots of cyclamen, which was recently featured in The Telegraph. And if you’d like to read more about Mairead and Athena, here’s an interview with them on Flowerona.
