Introducing textile designer, Fiona Douglas of Bluebellgray…

What a lovely way to start the week…stunning brightly coloured floral designs from Fiona Douglas of Bluebellgray!

From cushions and wall hangings to lampshades, her translation of flowers on to fabric is absolutely beautiful.

Floral inspired creations from Anthropologie’s new B H L D N wedding brand

Some of you may have heard of the amazing American women’s clothing, accessories and home decor brand, Anthropologie?  Two of its shops are in London in Regent Street and King’s Road.

Well, on Valentine’s Day on Monday (very appropriately), its parent company URBN launched a new wedding brand online called B H L D N.

B H L D N is pronounced ‘Beholden’, and is inspired by the Dutch word for ‘to keep’.

Hyacinth – a highly fragrant spring bulb and cut flower

Flowering potted hyacinths make a lovely gift at this time of year.  The arrangement above was a present from my brother and his family when they came to stay for the weekend a few weeks ago.

The flowers still remind me of that lovely time we spent together and they fill our kitchen with a beautiful sweet fragrance…like a natural room freshener.

As well as potted bulbs, cut hyacinth flowers are also available at the moment.

Snowdrops – nature’s first sign of spring

Well, yes it is Valentine’s Day, but if you are away from your loved one today, you may like to plan a romantic walk in woodlands or gardens full of snowdrops this coming weekend.

When researching this post, I was amazed at the number of places in the UK which you can visit from late January to March to witness the arrival of these beautiful flowers.

The Latin name for snowdrop is Galanthus which comes from the Greek ‘gala’ (milk) and ‘anthos’ (flower), referring to the colour of the flower. … Read more

Florist Profile – Sarah Raven

When I mentioned to a friend that I was thinking about growing my own cut flowers this year, she recommended Sarah Raven’s Kitchen & Garden website.

So I went online and requested Sarah’s catalogues.  I received a very colourful spring catalogue of bulbs, plants, tubers and seedlings, plus a seed catalogue.
