Ranunculus – one of my favourite flowers

One of my very favourite flowers is the ranunculus, which is from the same family as the buttercup.  I was so happy when I went into my local florist this week and saw these beautiful pale pink blooms.

They are very feminine flowers and remind me of 50s crinoline petticoats. I love the layers upon layers of soft delicate petals.  Each day as they unfold, they look better and better, with the petals becoming more and more translucent.

Introducing textile designer, Poppy Treffry…

I met the lovely Poppy Treffry at the Country Living Fair last November in London.  Her stand immediately drew me in…and upon talking to her, I found out that she comes from my part of the world, the southwest of England…in particular Cornwall.  (I’m from the neighbouring county of Devon.)

I adore her quirky embroidered textile designs and thought you may also like to see some of her creations which have a floral theme.

Introducing photographer and artist, Leslie Shewring…

The exceptionally gifted lady behind the beautiful images of the flowers in today’s post is Leslie Shewring.  I ‘met’ Leslie online last autumn when she was co-teaching Holly Becker at Decor8’s Blogging Your Way (BYW) course.

I am sure you’ll agree that her photography is absolutely stunning.  The images below are taken from her blog, a creative mint.

Gardenia – a beautiful and highly fragrant plant

Isn’t it funny how a certain fragrance can bring back memories of a particular event or time?

For example, Anais Anais perfume reminds me of my first trip to Germany in the late 1980s, when I was on a student exchange.

The exotic fragrance of gardenia brings back memories of when I was working at a florist in London, where they’d ordered in lots of gardenia plants for a wedding.
