I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I went away and spent time with family, enjoying delicious food, countryside walks and lots of fun with our little nephews. Since I’ve been back home, I’ve been spending time tackling my accounts for my tax return (deep joy!), analysing the results of the recent Flowerona Survey and making plans for 2016 (which I’m very excited about!)
Today, as we’re nearing the end of 2015, I just thought I’d pop by with a look back on the last 12 months and share with you some of my highlights.
Flowerona for Florists
I’m thrilled by the way that the Flowerona brand is developing, with it now encompassing business workshops for florists, a Flowerona for Florists Facebook Group and the Flowerona Job Vacancies Board.
My workshop co-host Fiona and I ran two Social Media for Florists workshops and our first Branding for Florists workshop in London…all of which received amazing feedback from our delegates. The Facebook Group goes from strength to strength and I’m delighted to see how it’s helping florists, not only in the UK but also globally. Plus the Flowerona Job Vacancies Board has proved to be very popular in helping florists fill positions and find jobs.
I’ve been very fortunate to attend some fabulous events this year, ranging from floristry courses including 3 Weddings in 3 Days with Sabine Darrall, The Chapel Designers Conference (image above) and Wedding Flowers Intensive with Green and Gorgeous and The Garden Gate Flower Company to wedding shows such as Brides The Show and the Quintessentially Wedding Atelier. Plus the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, press events and book launches.
It was such an honour to compere the British Flowers Week event at The Garden Museum and the New Covent Garden Flower Market College Day (image above). I’ve found my TV Presenting course has really helped me build on my presenting skills, plus improve my weekly YouTube videos.
This year, I’ve also had the pleasure of assisting many people all over the world with 121 consultancy, helping them with their social media, both in person and via Skype. It’s so rewarding when after our sessions, I see the immediate impact in their use of social media and the growth in their following.
Thank you so much for all your support which directly helped me to win two awards this year: Individual Wedding Category at the UK Blog Awards 2015 (image above) and Best Wedding Flowers Blog at the Wedding Magazine Blog Awards 2015. It really means so much to me!
Visiting New Covent Garden Flower Market at least once a month to talk to the traders and take photographs is one of the favourite parts of my job. Admittedly, the unearthly 4.30am alarm call can sometimes be a little bit of a struggle. But once I enter the Market and breathe in the heady scent of flowers and foliage, feast my eyes on all the stunning seasonal blooms and chat to the traders, waking up early is such a very small price to pay. It’s so lovely to bump into lots of familiar faces and meet new florists too. And yes, it’s very rare that I’m able to leave Nine Elms without flowers…how can I resist?!
Balancing running a small business, spending time with family and friends, and going to the gym regularly, I’ve become increasingly aware that ‘You can do anything, but not everything‘ and have had to make some important decisions. There are only a limited number of hours in the day and I’ve realised that I need to focus my efforts.
Also a number of challenges have cropped up along the way, including plagiarism, intermittent web hosting problems, health issues (which have thankfully been resolved) and reoccurring feelings of overwhelm. But I’ve learnt from all of these issues, have put plans in place and now feel ready to move forward.
Looking Forward to 2016
What will the next 12 months have in store, I wonder? Well, I have a b-i-g birthday coming up in the second half of the year (yikes!) and I’ve set myself a goal related to my TV quest to achieve before it. Behind the scenes, I’ll be putting a lot of work into doing everything I can to make it a reality.
There are also some exciting projects bubbling away especially for Flowerona readers, including some new blog post series and videos, which I’ll be creating as a result of the feedback in the Flowerona Survey. And if you’d like to come to one of our business workshops for florists, we’re planning on holding more in the autumn. Simply sign up to my newsletter to be one of the very first to know when we announce the dates.
I’ll also be continuing my TV Presenting course, plus I’m planning on attending a Public Speaking course. I truly believe that you can never stop learning…!
So, I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my look back on 2015. Thank you so much for accompanying me on my floral journey over the last 12 months and I’d like to wish you all a very Happy New Year!
P.S. I’ll be back on Monday with my first blog post of 2016.
