When you’re running an event, it’s a great idea to create a hashtag especially for it. Now, you might wonder why? Well, it’s a great way for people who aren’t following each other on social media to connect, particularly on Instagram and Twitter. They’ll be able to search the hashtag prior to the event to see who else is attending, giving them the opportunity of making contact beforehand. Plus, after the event, you and they will be able to see what appears on social media.
We ran a Social Media for Florists workshop on Wednesday and the hashtag was #socialforflorists. Creating the hashtag made it very easy for our delegates to discover who was attending the workshop in advance, giving them the opportunity to get to know each other. As hosts, it saved us time locating the delegates’ social media activity, before, during and after the workshop.
Just make sure though that your hashtag is unique enough to only be used for your particular event.
