Today’s blog post is a little different from the norm…
You may remember that, back in April, I attended a conference called ‘Horticulture : A Career to be Proud of’ and wrote some blog posts about the event?
Well, whilst I was there I met a lovely gentleman called Leigh Morris, who is as passionate about horticulture as I am about floristry!
Leigh is President of the Institute of Horticulture and Associate Director of Horticulture at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. But what I want to share with you today is the Grow Careers initiative, of which he is the Chair.
The Grow Careers initiative was set up in 2006 to promote careers in horticulture.
Four years ago, the Grow website was launched and the vision is that it becomes ‘the’ place for information on careers, courses and jobs in horticulture.
And it’s not just young people who’ll find the website useful, but also career changers.
So if you know someone, young or old, who is wondering what they should do career-wise, please do point them to the Grow website. And there’s also a Facebook page and a Twitter account.
They’ll find information on careers ranging from being a florist, landscape contractor or garden designer to tree surgeon.
There really are some fantastic career opportunities in horticulture, for all abilities, and across a hugely diverse range of roles…
