I hope you had a lovely weekend! We’re going to start off this week with this month’s Houseplant of the Month…the easy to care for Zamioculcas.
Its common name is ZZ plant, an abbreviation of its full botanical name, Zamioculcas zamiifolia. With air purifying qualities, the plant has glossy dark green leaves on stems which can grow up to 3ft long indoors.
Although the plant has been acknowledged botanically since 1892, it has only been popular as a houseplant for the past 15 years or so.
Care wise, the Zamioculcas will be happy in both partial shade and a light spot. Keep its compost moist all year round but take care to never leave it sitting in water. It’s best to feed it once a month and regularly spray the leaves with tepid water.
The plant’s distinctly upright habit makes it the ideal houseplant if you’d like to add a touch of greenery to your home, but don’t want it to take up too much space.
