Taking quality flower photos to market your business, especially when you’re pressed for time, is so important. Not just that but they’re also a great way of telling your unique story and recording your work.
Master the five tips below and you’ll be well on your way to capturing your flowers beautifully.
SHOOT IN NATURAL LIGHT
Take the time beforehand to find out which space in your shop, studio or home is north facing with a big window and lots of natural light if you’re in the northern hemisphere. Or south facing, if you’re based in the Southern Hemisphere.
Create a Designated Photography Spot
To help your save time, have a space already set up, so you can point and shoot quickly and easily.
Consistent Surfaces & Backgrounds
Create or collect simple, plain on-brand surfaces and backgrounds which won’t distract from your flowers. It’s ok for them to have texture like fabric or distressed wood, but steer clear of busy, jazzy patterns.
Select a Ceramic or Coloured Glass Container
Choose containers thoughtfully and the stems won’t distract as much from the flowers themselves.
Choose your Hero Bloom
Decide which flower you’re going to focus on. Ask yourself which flower you’re naturally drawn to first. And use the Rule of Thirds for great composition.
