If you follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed my tweet yesterday…it was a very exciting start to the week! I was filming with The Joy of Plants. All will be revealed on Flowerona soon. Back to today…I’m delighted to feature an interview with Christina Strutt, co-founder of Cabbages & Roses, plus share with you some beautiful images from her new book, ‘Living Life Beautifully’. Its publication coincides with the opening of her new flagship store in London.
Could you tell us how your company, Cabbages & Roses, came about?
Cabbages and Roses was born in 2000 to fulfil the need for something beautiful and practical to be incorporated into everyday living. The name came from a discussion I was having with my co-founder, Brigette Buchanan. Her favourite flowers were roses, my favourite vegetable (to look at) were cabbages. The words worked so well together!
What type of products do you create and sell?
We sell home and soft furnishings, clothing and accessories.
What prompted you to open a flagship store in Chelsea this year?
Having spent the last 14 years at Langton Street, we were bursting at the seams. So when I found the two shops on Sydney Street side by side, it just seemed too good an opportunity to miss. It was just the right time to move on.
You’ve recently written your eighth book ‘Living Life Beautifully’. Could you tell us about your new book?
The book is about how creative people’s work and home life are intertwined. And about how important it is to work in an environment that feeds creativity. All the people included in the book work, to a certain extent, from their homes. So naturally their homes inspire and cross over into their work.
What are your plans for 2014?
We’re working on a number of exciting projects and collaborations this year, but I can’t say any more than that at the moment!
What is your favourite flower?
Sorry, not possible to pin me down to one. In no particular order: old-fashioned roses, peonies, larkspur, delphiniums, sweet peas, foxgloves and cow parsley. If one, then cow parsley!
And here are some pictures from Christina’s wonderful new book…
Don’t the homes look so inspirational? Christina’s book, ‘Living Life Beautifully’ is available from all good bookshops and the new Cabbages & Roses shop is located at 121-123 Sydney Street, London, SW3 6NR.
