So, I’m delighted today to feature an interview with florist Gemma Bain, together with images of their stunning floral designs…
Could you tell us what prompted you to become a florist?
Growing up, floristry was the family business. My family had a chain of flower shops, so I grew up surrounded by flowers.
I’ve always loved being creative and artistic, and working with flowers gave me the opportunity to do this.
When was Planet Flowers founded and where is it based?
Planet Flowers first started in 1998.
I joined in 2004, leaving my previous job managing a flower shop in Jenners department store, because I wanted to get more involved with wedding and event flowers.
What kind of floristry services do you offer?
Weddings, events and special occasions.
Could you tell us about some of your recent commissions?
We’ve had some amazing commissions. We travelled out to the Isle of Bute for a wedding recently, which was a great experience.
We’ve done everything from creepy Hallowe’en and Tim Burton inspired 21st birthdays, to the Holyrood Garden Party for the Jubilee.
How would you describe your style?
We really take pride in suiting our clients’ style, rather than imposing our own.
We work with the budget and venue which we’re given, in order to give our clients the event which they want.
What is your favourite flower?
I don’t have a favourite! But I do love working with seasonal flowers…and with flowers in abundance. There’s no such thing as too many flowers.
