Recently, I discovered the work of designer, Nicola De Cruz, who makes the floral-inspired accessories featured in today’s post.
She started her business after realising that there was a gap in the market for contemporary handbags and purses in the UK.
Her products are made using a mixture of hand and machine embroidery to produce distinctive designs, based on myths & fairy tales.
Nicola very kindly answered a few questions for me :
When did you start your business and where are you based?
I started my business in 2007 and I’m based in Surrey.
Where do you get your floral inspiration for your designs?
I visit stately homes and gardens around the UK for inspiration. One of my favourites is the gardens at Hampton Court Palace.
What are your plans for 2011?
I hope to show at more British designer-maker crafts shows around the UK this year.
The next show I will be exhibiting my purses and handbags at will be The Contemporary Craft Fair at Bovey Tracey, Devon.
Do you have a favourite flower?
The daisy is a particular favourite of mine. It’s such a simple, but elegant flower.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing Nicola’s designs, which are available to purchase from her website.
