Katie very kindly answered some questions for me :
When did you start your business and where are you based?
I’ve been selling my art and illustrations since 2005, but have been pursuing it more intentionally since 2009.
Right now I live in Bloomington, Indiana where there is a great little art community, lots of good food, and a decent music scene thanks to it being home to Indiana University.
Where do you get your floral inspiration for your designs?
My other job is as the head-designer at a local florist, Peppertree Floral, so I am constantly surrounded by beautiful flowers.
I also get a lot of my inspiration from different florists’ blogs. My favorite thing is coming up with or seeing unusual color or texture combinations.
What are your plans for the remainder of 2011 & 2012?
Lots of things in the works – I am scaling back my time as a florist to concentrate more on being an artist. As a result, there might be less flowers in my artwork.
But I have plans for a children’s book, a new series of paintings, and new goodies up for sale at my Etsy shop.
I’m also starting up a small online shop with a good friend. We’ve just launched our blog called Good Voyage that you can check out, but hope to have a spring line of paper and art goods in 2012.
Do you have a favourite flower?
If I had to just pick one, it would be the peony. I have fond memories of them in my mom’s garden, and I just don’t think you can beat how soft, petal-y, lush, and fluffy they are.
The runners-up would be hellebores and leucadendron.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing Katie’s illustrations…aren’t they just beautiful?
