I hope you had a lovely weekend.
I’m delighted to feature today an interview with designer, Camilla Meijer, who has a range of amazing floral-inspired wallpapers, cushions, tea towels and bags.
When did you start your business and where are you based?
I launched in the summer of 2006 with my first collection of textiles at the Pulse show in London.
Then in 2007, I launched my first wallpapers and won the ‘One Year On Designer Award’ at New Designers.
I’m based in London since coming over from Sweden and the work keeps me here as I find endless inspiration for my patterns.
Where do you get your floral inspiration for your designs?
My floral inspiration is taken from my everyday surroundings, here in London. It’s amazing to live in a large city like this and still for it to have so much nature around you.
I spot my flowers in people’s gardens as I’m walking down residential streets. It’s lovely to be presented with so many different types of flora, wild or planted.
What are your plans for the remainder of 2011?
I’ve just completed two new patterns, The Doves and Magnolia. They are two very different pattern stories.
The Doves is a playful story where you see the doves interacting with the orchid branch in a bit of a playful dance.
Magnolia is inspired by all the beautiful magnolia trees I’ve been admiring over the years. For me, this pattern is very grand with all its attention to detail and could possibly be timeless, as I can’t really place it, as in which era it belongs.
And right now, I’m in the print studio screen printing some new additions, canvas bags, tea towels and the new cushion collection from this year’s patterns.
Do you have a favourite flower?
This is very hard, but if I need to make a choice, right now I have been admiring the English rose.
It’s just so bold, present, beautiful, intricate and endless… It keeps its beauty through all its life, from bud to bold and naked without its petals.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing Camilla’s fabulous wallpapers and cushions.
