At a recent trade show in London, I met the lovely Sophy Henn who runs My Giddy Aunt (great name!) and was completely taken by her beautiful and very colourful prints.
I know only one of the images in today’s post is totally floral, but I find her designs so uplifting, that I just had to feature the very cute images below…which do feature flowers and would be absolutely perfect for a child’s bedroom! Don’t you agree?
Sophy very kindly answered a few questions for me:
When did you start your business and where are you based?
I started my greetings card business about 6 years ago, having moved out to Sussex after the birth of my daughter. From illustrating and designing my cards, I have started doing more and more illustration, for my prints and for other companies, which I love!
Where do you get your floral inspiration for your designs?
My floral inspiration comes from many different places, but I am mainly drawn to very graphic yet figurative floral images.
For my florals, I love old silk scarves, 1930/40s fabric prints, vintage children’s books, the list goes on and on…
What are your plans for the remainder of 2011?
2011 is proving a very busy year! I am looking to do more commissioned illustration and will recommence a Sequential Illustration MA.
Do you have a favourite flower?
To choose just one flower is impossible, but as much as I love wild flowers, if I am putting something in a vase I do like it to be blousy! Peonies, hydrangeas, old roses and sweet williams.
