I recently came across these very cute and colourful Garden Baby gifts which have been created by Magdalena Jamka-Galea.
I love the whole concept of hand-rolling baby items to make them look like flowers. Included in the designs are organic baby clothing, colourful muslin squares and socks.
A bird-shaped flower spike contains the greeting message and the gifts also include hand-made fabric flowers, which are ideal for decorating a nursery.
Each bouquet is placed in a contemporary container by Koziol Design, which then can be used as a bag, trug or watering can, or simply as a stylish storage solution.
Magdalena very kindly answered a few questions for me:
When did you set up your business and where are you based?
The business was set up in September 2011 and the website went live at the beginning of December. We’re located in Fleet, Hampshire where I live with my husband and our four year old daughter.
Could you tell us how the company came about?
Art has been my passion since quite a young age. I gained a Bachelor degree in Fine Art and Art History. I then pursued it through various roles working in graphic design, as a mural painter, as an artist/educator and then as an art teacher.
Although I enjoyed and learned a lot from my past experiences, I’ve always thought that working for myself would be the most rewarding career of all.
Having my daughter four years ago was a life-changing experience and like most parents, the life balance of work and home was a motivation to work up the courage to attempt to create something of my own.
That was where I got the inspiration for Garden Baby gifts.
Where do you get inspiration for the designs?
I find that the creative process is a quite unpredictable and the strangest objects can often spark ideas.
My first line of baby gifts was driven by wanting to offer an alternative to traditional pink and blue options and make something bright and cheerful.
I tried to reflect the joyful experience of having a baby. I wanted the packaging to complement the idea and I think that the Koziol Design bags do just that.
What are your plans for 2012?
Choosing gift making for my business over other forms of art was a conscious decision, as the idea of celebration was always a great interest of mine.
Wedding tradition and its limitless character is very exciting to me. Hence I’m currently working on a selection of wedding favours which I hope to include on my website very shortly.
At the moment, ideas come faster than I can accommodate them but eventually I plan to include stylish and useful gifts for various occasions.
As my business is fairly new, marketing is another aspect which I will be concentrating on this year.
Do you have a favourite flower?
The daisy was always my favourite flower. I love the simplicity and the fresh summer feel of it.
My wedding bouquet was made out of daisies and as was my daughter’s christening headband.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing these Garden Baby gifts today. They’re just so colourful and cheerful! A perfect present for a mum-to-be or new mum, especially one who’s fond of gardening…
