I recently came across the very colourful work of textile designer, Sarah-Jayne Guest. Today, I’d like to showcase some of her floral-inspired designs from her brand, sjguest, which includes prints, cushions and furniture.
Above and the first two images below are from Sarah-Jayne’s print collection, called ‘Imagination’.
Finally, a fab Ercol chair with leaf fabric which is made to order.
To find out more about the lady behind these amazing designs, I asked Sarah-Jayne some questions: –
When did you start sjguest and where are you based?
I started designing the ‘Imagination’ collection in 2009 as part of my final year collection while studying printed textiles at Loughborough University, and have continued developing sjguest from my home studio in Chelmsford, Essex.
Where did you get your floral inspiration from for the floral cushions and ‘Imagination’ collection?
I get inspiration from everywhere and try to carry a camera on me at all times, so that I can capture great things when I see them.
Most of the floral imagery comes from photos taken in parks, my garden, friends’ gardens, and although the locations may not be that exciting, the great thing about flowers is that they constantly change with the seasons, giving me a never-ending supply of inspiration.
One of my great loves is blossom, and the flowers seen in blue floral are all based on blossom; from a distance it looks like pink fluffy snow, but up close it’s a mass of gorgeous, miniature, perfectly-formed flowers….I cannot wait for spring!
What are your plans for 2011?
I plan to launch a range of brightly coloured tiles later this year that will have designs etched into the surface. I am just seeing the preliminary results of these now and am really looking forward to working with a new medium.
Do you have a favourite flower?
Bluebells, plus all the English wild flowers, ungroomed and natural…lovely!
I’m sure you’ll agree that her designs are very eye-catching. If you’d like to keep up-to-date with Sarah-Jayne’s news, she has a blog, where she’s recently announced that her cushions are now available in Selfridges in London. You can also buy her collection online and via her stockists.
Sarah-Jayne is taking part in the ‘Something Blue’ event in London along with Emma Britton, who was featured in a post last week.
