McQueens Flowers have created two wonderful floral creations for this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show! And we’ll start off with their ‘Per Oculus Apum’ installation, meaning ‘Through the Eyes of Bees’. Pictured above are McQueens founder and owner Kally Ellis (left) and new managing director, Richard Eagleton (right). It was so lovely to see them both at Press Day.
McQueens, like JamJar, are keen to emphasise the plight of bees and the importance of nurturing the bee population. To follow, you’ll discover details about their breath-taking bee-friendly design, which adorns the tunnel connecting Main Avenue with Ranelagh Gardens.
Measuring 20m long by 7m wide, the flowers in vibrant shades form a canopy across the ceiling of the tunnel. And they curve in a half-turn helix downwards spilling out on to the floor in a wave shape. An oscillating soundscape of the electrostatic patterns that help guide bees to the flowers complements the installation. And London Perfumer Miller Harris has provided a honey scent trail along the tunnel to complete the experience for a thought-provoking, immersive sensory experience on many levels.
