Seasonal flowers, foliage, plants and sundries feature every month in my reports for the New Covent Garden Flower Market blog. And my first report of the decade features British flowers in the form of daffodils and tulips, together with rancunculus, nerines and anemones from further afield.

Homegrown blooms and local foraged foliage were certainly the stars of the show at India Hurst from Vervain’s Vase Workshop in Worcestershire last summer.

The seven attendees, all with a mix of abilities, some seasoned florists and others complete beginners, had at their disposal a heavenly choice of seasonal flowers. If I did a survey and asked people what kind of flowers they would normally associate with Valentine’s Day, it’s very likely that the most popular answer would be red roses…do you agree?  What I love about Philippa Craddock’s new collection for Valentine’s Day though is that, whilst including bouquets featuring this traditional choice of bloom, she’s also created some exquisite designs in alternative colour palettes and using seasonal flowers.
