This is the final show garden from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show that I’m planning on featuring on Flowerona this year. Called The Homebase Garden – ‘Time to Reflect’ in association with The Alzheimer’s Society, it was designed by Adam Frost. Many congratulations to Adam, Homebase and constructor The Outdoor Room on winning a Gold medal! Inspired by Adam’s father’s passion for the outdoors, the garden demonstrates how a person’s memories can help to create a multi-purpose family space. I love the naturalistic planting featuring purples and whites, plus the meandering path.… Read more
Nestling very elegantly amongst the Fresh Gardens at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show is a stunning garden by Jo Thompson. Many congratulations to Jo, London Square and The Outdoor Room for winning a Gold medal! Jo’s design represents a London garden square, with beautiful trees, a place to sit and art to admire. Her planting influences came from a collection of floristry books, which she shares with her mother, a florist, and one of the first gardening books she read cover to cover. … Read more
Many congratulations to Andrew Wilson and Gavin McWilliam of Wilson McWilliam Studio for their Silver-Gilt medal at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show! The Cloudy Bay Sensory Garden is the name of the show garden, which they designed for New Zealand’s iconic winery Cloudy Bay, to reflect the tasting notes of their signature wines – Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. I loved the contrast of the tall charred oak panels with the soft, naturalistic planting scheme. Allium ‘Violet Beauty’ and Iris germanica ‘Roseplic’ provided pops of purple, with swathes of Iris germanica ‘Dutch Chocolate’ bringing splashes of rich brown.… Read more
Over the coming days, I’ll be sharing with you images of my favourite RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2013 show gardens.
I’m going to start off with Jo Thompson‘s design for Fera called ‘Stop the Spread’, which was built by The Outdoor Room.
You may remember that I followed Jo’s journey to Chelsea last year and I also wrote about her 2013 plans last month.
The garden has been inspired by the message : our plants, trees and wildlife are under threat from pests, diseases and invasive non-native species, which could have a huge impact on our gardens, woodlands and countryside.… Read more
Today, I’m delighted to feature a show garden which Jo Thompson has designed for this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
You may remember that I followed Jo’s journey to Chelsea in 2012?
Last Thursday, Jo and her team from The Outdoor Room were on Main Avenue in the show ground, starting to turn the plans into reality.
They have less than two weeks to create the garden which is called ‘Stop the Spread’.
