You may remember a few months ago, I featured a ‘3 Weddings in 3 Days’ course, a creative floral design and styling workshop with Sabine Darrall and photographer Katie Spicer, which took place in May? Well, this autumn the course took place again and Sabine has very kindly shared details with us today:
Held at Holbrook House in Somerset, each day we created a different styled wedding with the focus on the flowers and styling, but also with discussions on pricing, budgeting and selling. Each wedding was styled using custom-made stationery with different props and details to complete the look.
Day 1 – Rustic : Creating relaxed informal atmospheres using wild and organic elements
Our attendees created a rustic arch using vibrant autumn flowers and foliages, beech logs and gourds. They then went on to construct a table canopy with seasonal flowers, foliage and fruits including locally grown dahlias and amaranthus from Windmill Farm Flowers.
After lunch, we looked at new techniques for constructing floral crowns and designed a natural gathered bouquet. We then created a beautiful table design for our first night’s dinner.
Day 2 – Elegant : Classically and timelessly romantic, using the best autumn flowers
We began the day creating a informal shower bouquet and pomander. We went on to design a large display using chicken wire. Then the students created an elegant candelabra for the evening dinner table.
Day 3 – Luxe : Extravagant and glamorous, with a high volume flower content
Our last day focused on luxury flowers with a look at designing for high budget weddings. We designed a elevated centrepiece using roses, hydrangea and orchids. We added sequined linen from Pudding Bridge and hanging Moroccan lanterns, votives and charger plates.
The course finished with an amazing ceremony set-up…an aisle of garlanded candle posts. Students work was captured for their portfolios throughout the course by Katie, with bouquets and crowns modelled by the lovely Maizie.
I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s ‘behind the scenes’ look at Sabine and Katie’s sensational course. They’re holding the next one in May:
