The growing trend of including succulents in wedding flower designs is, if I’m honest, something which I’ve taken a little while to warm to…
I think it’s because my favourite flowers are peonies and ranunculus, which are both such pretty, feminine and ‘frilly’ flowers. Succulents on the other hand are at the polar opposite in terms of shape and texture.
But I’m slowly coming around to the idea that these plants really do add something special to wedding designs…especially after seeing all the different types at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show last week.
The trend of using succulents at weddings started in America in the last couple of years and they now seem to have international appeal.
Wired, they can be used in bouquets and buttonholes. And potted in containers, they can be used as place card holders, favours and table decorations.
Available all year round, they’re perfect for modern, rustic and vintage weddings.
They really do add a touch of quirkiness to arrangements and one big bonus is that you can treasure them as a keepsake after your special day.
So if you’re planning your wedding, I thought I’d share some ideas with you as to how you can use them…
